Traditions of the Cres island

Martinšćica - Andrija Linardić founded the tradition of processing essential oils from medicinal and aromatic plants at 1900 with the first “Distillery of Essential Oils” in the village of Martinšćica. Interest in essential oils has revived in recent decades with the popularity of aromatherapy, a branch of alternative medicine that claims that essential oils and other aromatic compounds have curative effects. Many common essential oils have medicinal properties. When visiting the ecological agriculture yard it is possible to buy essential oils like lavender, helichrysum, sage, rosemary, bay leaves, juniper and other essential oils. On offer are various hydrosols, natural soaps and scented sachets of herbs from the island.

Lubenice - a unique village located on an imposing cliff with a stunning view of the open sea. Although now Lubenice seems extinct the village impresses with it stone walls and stone houses which reflect the history of the island Cres.

Valun is a romantic village known for its Glagolitic heritage. The “Glagoljica” was in the 11th Century, a font of the North Adriatic population. The “Valun Stone Tablet” was discovered here, one of the oldest Glagolitic inscriptions of Croatia.
